Mastering Habits One Day At A Time - LifestyleAnytime
Hi Reader
I hope you’ve made some great progress towards your goals.
This week, a question caught my eye. The question was, “What is it that YOU are doing that keeps causing the same thing to happen?”
For me the thing I was doing was not putting myself first. I was giving and giving to others and not giving enough to myself. I learned the lesson after multiple burnouts, and that is why I encourage self-care, self-love, and focus on personal goals and life fulfilment.
Focusing on yourself may not come easily to you. It didn’t to me for a long time. I used to feel selfish or guilty when doing so. One day, a coach I had said, ‘You need to be selflessly selfish at times to fulfil your needs.’
15 Practical Ways to Prioritize Your Own Needs.
Embrace self-care: Spend time daily doing something you enjoy, like journaling, reading a book, or practising yoga.
Nourish your body: Pay attention to what you eat, sleep and daily exercise. Ensure you enjoy healthy meals and have a regular sleep routine.
Journal or write about your feelings: I find journaling about how you feel about something and why you feel that way helps you understand yourself and helps you see things from different perspectives. Here are some journal prompts to help you.
Set clear boundaries: Say no to others to protect yourself from burnout, disappointment and your heart. The most important boundary is to protect your heart and I don’t mean love for others I mean love for yourself. When you identify the boundaries you need to in place, you become happier, you start taking action on your personal goals. You realise you matter more than you thought. 💗
Avoid comparison: Focus on your journey without comparing yourself to others. We all have different journeys and arrive at different destinations at different times. Read the article below on embracing life’s journey. It shares The Station, a poem on life.
Practice mindfulness: Engage in mindful activities and connect with them while pursuing them—activities like walking in nature, meditation or one of these 24 mindfulness activities.
Engage in a hobby: Spend time doing things you love. Identify a hobby or activity you enjoy and dedicate time to it each week. I grow succulents. I’m really enjoying them at present as they share their winter flowers. Reply back to this email sharing one of your hobbies.
Cultivate self-kindness: Treat yourself with the same respect and kindness you would a friend. If you sense you are being hard on yourself, pause, reflect, and give yourself the advice you would your best friend.
Celebrate your achievements: Recognise all your small wins and successes. Every small step leads to a larger accomplishment. Every day, there are wins. Sometimes, the wins are simply having 10 minutes to yourself. Celebrate the win.
Practice reflection: Reflect on your life’s journey, the day, your experiences, and your personal growth. Reflection is the pathway to reviewing, learning, changing, and growing.
Ask for help: Seek support and guidance when needed. Ask a friend, a peer, or a relative for help, or seek professional advice. Find the confidence you have within to ask for help.
Disconnect digitally: Take a break from digital devices, turn off your phone, and disconnect to reduce stress and improve focus.
Forgive yourself: Forgive yourself for your past mistakes and judgements.
Ask for what you need: Ask yourself what you need, acknowledge your need and seek out assistance if needed to give yourself what you need. Example: Identify – busy, chaotic day, Acknowledge – Stressed from the day, need time out, Ask – ask for help. “I have had a busy day and need time for myself to reflect and destress. Can you prepare dinner tonight?”
Listen to yourself: Pay attention to your daily thoughts and feelings. Pay attention to your body, and check in with yourself to be aware of your needs. Slowing down to check in can help with clarity.
This week, prioritise your own needs—focus on one of your hobbies. Reply to this message to tell me about one of your hobbies. Do you enjoy growing succulents, enjoy walking in nature or listening to the birds chirping? Share what you enjoy.
Believe in yourself and your dreams. 💗

Mastering Habits One Day At A Time - LifestyleAnytime Hi Reader In 2024, my daughter asked me to be involved in a podcast she had decided to launch. Podcasting was not something I was looking into, but supporting my daughter with her 'Talk to Me Mum' podcast has been rewarding. We are learning from each other. During the podcast, I learned that my daughter began Pilates in December. I also started Pilates, as my challenge and goal is to improve my health. Deciding to start Pilates was the...
Mastering Habits One Day At A Time - LifestyleAnytime Hi Reader I hope you’ve had a fantastic Christmas and New Year and made great progress towards your goals in 2024. The quote below I find is a great reminder to review goals. If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster. Stephen Convey Either at the end of each year or at the start of the year, I reflect on my goals and the actions I am taking to achieve those goals....
Mastering Habits One Day At A Time - LifestyleAnytime Hi It is that time of year when we begin to reflect on the past year and plan our goals for the upcoming year. 2023 has been an amazing year. Carsten and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Europe, visiting family and friends. Career and business achievements included stronger team communication and relationships. For Carsten, there are many changes ahead as he has finished up his job to work on his business. In early 2023, we purchased...
