I hope you’ve had a fantastic Christmas and New Year and made great progress towards your goals in 2024.

The quote below I find is a great reminder to review goals.

If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster.

Either at the end of each year or at the start of the year, I reflect on my goals and the actions I am taking to achieve those goals. Sometimes, I've realised that my actions are not leading me towards my goals. I reflect on my path to review my goals or actions in these instances. Below, I share some of the ways I review and renew goals.

The eight steps in goal planning.

  1. Review the past year: Reviewing your past year and goal achievements is essential as it helps plan for the upcoming year.
  2. Reflect on your goals: Reflect on your goals and determine if they are the goals you wish to pursue. Have your goals changed? Goals do change as our lives change: single goals, career goals, family goals, retirement goals. Each season of life brings new adventures and new achievements. Reflect and decide if you are climbing up the right ladder.
  3. Create a strategic plan: Design your life by setting short and long term goals that will lead you to your ultimate goal.
  4. Review your plan: Review your goals and your goal plan. Too many people set goals in their minds or write them down once and then forget about them. To achieve actual goals, you need to make a plan and review your plan regularly.
  5. Eliminate obstacles: As you work towards your 2025 goals, determine what obstacles you may come up against. If you know the roadblocks you may face, you can plan and eliminate them.
  6. Find support: Support can come from friends and family, colleagues, support groups, accountability partners, and mentors.

  7. Plan for success: Take action daily towards your goals. Only by taking action can you create the new you and achieve the goals you set for yourself.
  8. Set your vision: Keep your goals alive with the power of visualisation. Seeing yourself achieve your goals can help you take action and plan the steps you need to take to achieve your goals.
